Subject: The worst telescope I ever used, and it wasn't a Tasco

Hello Friend,

I've seen  a lot of telescopes come on go in my time, but probably the worst one
I ever used, was one made by a now defunct Canadian company called Consumers
distributing.

All the parts were made entirely of  plastic, including the gears on the so called
equatorial mount.

Imagine using that in cold weather.

The optics on it were so bad,  that the front lens, (Objective) was stopped down
from 60mm to 40mm of true aperture.

The most remarkable thing was the the telescope manual had a very detailed cutaway
diagram of every single part of the telescope, and a replacement parts list.

And I mean everything was covered.

I found that intriguing for some strange reason.

The manual was written in broken Chinese and was mostly
gobbledygook anyway.

Oh yes, and a very dangerous Sun filter that threads in
to the eyepiece was also included.

The only object I ever saw through that instrument was a terrestrial one.

A telephone pole, that I  used to line up the dismal finderscope.
that was mounted on a spindle with no real adjustments to align
it to the main telescope.

I seem to recall the whole package cost about $79, and of course
it seemed like a good deal at the time.

Now, we are talking about the 1970's here.

But the lesson I learned is just as valid today.

If you buy cheap, you get cheap, and that's just the reality of the situation.

And nothing is more frustrating to use either.

Keep that in mind whether you are buying your next eyepiece , acccessory or your next
telescope.

Good quality goes a long way at the end of the day,  and best of all you
get to skip a whole lot of frustration in the process., and will own something
that will last you a whole lot longer.

Clear Skies,

Ray Khan

PS Being a Soccer (Football) fan, from growing up with it in England,
I'm watching some of the games in the World Cup series. Some of the outcomes
so far have been totally ridiculous. Like Spain, being out of the series for example.
Today, England plays Uruguay.  The Uruguayans in the last World Cup, were
out and out shameful, feigning injury when they were losing the game.
