    Recently an older gentleman came in and told us about this experience with his first telescope.

He had purchased a telescope several years ago, and took it out once or twice and then put it away
into the closet.

     Seems he could not quite focus an image with it, and got frustrated.

The telescope sat in the closet for a few years, and recently his interest was there once again,
and he really wanted to use his telescope.

But again, he ran into the issue of not being able to focus it.

    So he brought it in for us to have a look at.

As it turns out, it was a minor issue of not having the secondary mirror in the instrument lined up
and that is why he could not reach focus. 

It was an 8 inch dobsonian/reflector that he owned.

      He was delighted to have focused the moon with his telescope for the first time, after many years
and his interest was piqued again.

Now what is really sad is that the telescope remained dormant for several years.

Telescopes are meant to be used.  Not put  away and forgotten about.

They live to see the night sky.

    And being locked away in closet and forgotten about, makes them very unhappy.

So if you have a telescope that has not seen the sky for a while, then bring it out and give it
a shot of photons.

Your telescope will thank you.

PS Sometimes we outgrow the telescope that we own, or our interests in the type of imaging/observing also
     changes. If that is the case, then perhaps it is time to consider trading it in and getting something that is
     more suited to your current lifestyle.
