Imagine.

The evolution of a galaxy is shaped by the evolution of it's black hole.

That's one of the fascinating discoveries by Dr. Laura Ferrarese, who was the Helen Sawyer Hogg
keynote lecturer last night, at the RASC Annual Convention being held here  on the campus of the University Of Victoria
in beautiful 
Victoria, BC.

As a matter of fact, Dr. Ferrarese is one of the most cited individuals in professional journals,
with well over  125 publications to her credit.

As a staff member at the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics, her research allowed her to publish
the first secure detections of central black holes in galaxies beyond our own. 

All this got me to thinking. that we barely exist in the universe.

There is more dark matter, and dark energy, in the universe, with visible matter only being
a very small percentage, just below 5% .

At the present time, we have no idea what dark matter and dark energy is. 

And that's why it's important that we continue to promote science and astronomy amongst the general
public as best we can.

research continues to understand our universe on a daily basis.

Many land based and space based telescope projects are in the works at the present time, and hopefully
the political will  shall contniue and  remain, to keep Canada a leading contributor to the science of astronomy
on an international basis.
