Subject: Telescope frustrations and how to cope with them

Hi Friend,

Sometimes using a telescope can be frustrating.

It’s even worse when it’s below zero and you have clear Skies and the
simplest of things can go wrong.

That’s what happened to me this past weekend when I was under pristine
skies northeast of Parry Sound.

And looking forward to a few hours of doing astronomy the “hard way”.

Manual Refractor Vixen (Japan) 90mm “Grab and go” telescope with a
porta mount
Which is an alt-azimuth mount with slow motions.

Well wouldn’t you know it: for some reason the Alt-azimuth control was
not functioning and the gears were not engaging . Looks like someone had
forced the dec control past it’s end point.

This is what happens when you lend gear to friends and relatives.

Grrrr..

I managed to point the telescope at a few easy to find brighter objects
like M42,
M31 and the Pleiades but it wasn’t much fun trying to adjust the scope to
find fainter items.

I’m sure our technician will get it sorted this week.

Made the best of it regardless, and finally packed it in for some Grand
Mariner and coffee in the cottage.

Maybe I should stick to Solar Observing during the daytime instead?

Which brings me to our fabulous Coronado Solarmax III sale going on right
now:

Surprisingly, our best seller is the Coronado Solar Max III 90mm double stack.
Yes, its a top level performer. So if you ever wanted one, now is the time.

Listen, this sale is likely to be over before Justin deals with the blockade crisis,

To be fair, That’s not an easy task, considering he’s still thinking about
The tan he’s not getting in Barbados ‘cos he had to come home to deal with
Business of running a country.

Oh well, guess there’s always blackface. :(
