Subject: Starfest 2016 Report (complete with Glenlivet Scotch included!)

Hello Friend,

I have just returned from the 2016 Starfest astronomy convention held in River Place Park, Mount Forest Ontario.
every year.

One thing I noticed is that despite the wonderful weather, fewer and fewer amateur astronomers turn up to these events
than ever before.

This Starfest had some of the best weather I have ever seen at this event in the past 20 years.

So I have to wonder what the reason is.

Could it be:

  • Wife or partner won't let me go
  • Too early in August
  • Too expensive to attend
  • I'm antisocial and don't like large crowds
  • I don't wanna learn nuthin more about astronomy  (Immediate Fail!)
I really don't know the answer, but perhaps you could shed some insight as an amateur astronomer.

Khan Scope sets up as a vendor at this event, so we bring the latest in astronomical
products to show off and sell to people, but it is becoming more difficult to justify the effort involved in doing this.

So this gets back to my original question, why aren't amateur astronomers atttending these events?.

YOU tell me.  Email me at: ray@khanscope.com or just reply to this email.

PS Thanks to the anonymous vendor who provided Glenlivet Scotch at the end of each day, so I could recover in rapid order.
Yup, that is one reason to go to Starfest. Cold beer and Scotch.  And a great bunch of people.

PPS One more thing: Only an idiot would drink and drive in this age. So please don't do it.
