Subject: Part two: Saturday Morning Confusion.....continued
Happy Saturday Friend,
Well, it seems that while I did mention some of the benefits to early morning stargazing in my last email,
I neglected to mention what astronomical objects might be worth getting up for, and in particular, right now.
Thanks for reader Frank Dempsey for bringing that to my attention.
Frank is actually a Meterologist, you know, one of those people that work with millions of dollars of hi tech equipment, that predicted
the "Mother of all Snowstorms" for Toronto this past Friday, that of course did not materialize.....did anyone bother
checking with Groundhog, Wiarton Willie? Noooooooo...he already predicted an early spring!
So, here are is a really cool astronomical events happening that you don't want to miss, planned for next Saturday.
- Saturday, March 3
Mars reaches opposition, plus four other naked-eye planets on parade
As close approaches go, this is, admittedly, a poor one for Mars. But it’s still the best we’ll see the red planet for at least two more years. The real attraction in early March is the array of all five naked-eye planets across the sky, with Mercury, Venus and Jupiter at dusk, then Mars at its closest in the early evening, followed by Saturn later at night. (courtesy SkyNews magazine)
That's pretty cool! You won't get that opportunity too often: For specific details on where to look, and at what time,
check out either Astronomy Magazine, Skynews or Sky and Telescope. Or use a really cool Iphone APP software
such as Celestron's SkyQ. If you have an androids or other smartphone, other apps are also available for them.
Wishing you Clear Skies, Friend!
