Hello   Friend,

Here are a few quick tips for observing Today's Venus transit Safely.

First off, please do not look at the Sun directly without a pair of Solar Glasses.
Damaging your eyesight is simply not worth the risk.

to confirm stock, if you still need a pair)

If you have a Solar Telescope, such as a Coronado or Lunt, then by all means
use it. You will get the best views and also be able to possibly see what
is known as the "black drop effect".

The event start time will depend on where you live; in Toronto, where I am
it starts just after 6pm EST. So, based on that you can calculate your local time.

The Last Venus transit I observed was back in 2004, at the Scarborough Bluffs
with many of my friends and colleagues from the Toronto RASC.
I remember we had a pretty early start to the day, and it turned out to be
an awesome event.

The first few minutes of the Transit can be pretty exciting as you first see Venus
appearing. Oh yes, be careful to note any Sunspots on the surface of the Sun,
beforehand, so you don't mistake them for Venus. Just a possibility, thats all.
Venus will actually be darker than any sunspot anyway.

First contact is the point when Venus's disk first touches the Sun's outer edge.

Finally, if you happen to miss this event, you are not going to be seeing another
transit of Venus in your lifetime. The next  such alignment occurs in 2117. 

Now, if you believe in reincarnation......well, that's a whole different story altogether.....:)
