Hello Friend,

     Several years ago, I recall what fun it was to go to the Dunlap observatory on a Saturday night, and set up
telescopes on the lawn, so members of the public who were taking tours of the observatory, when it was
still owned by the University of Toronto could compare the view through the big 74 inch Observatory
telescope, and then my miniscule Celestron 8 SCT telescope.

     I usually chuckled when they asked why the image was so much better in my smaller telescope than
the view through the 74 inch, because most of the time they expected to be dissappointed.

Of course, I explained that the 74" was affected by a number of other factors, such as turbulence in the atmosphere,
humidity and various other factors.

    Well, that of course got them all excited about the fact that they could also buy an affordable instrument
to use for stargazing themselves.

Which was followed by the inevitable question as to where to buy one.

      To which I would answer: "Well, it just so happens...."

Actually, I had to remain pretty neutral about  running a telescope store, because the U. of T. frowned upon
any kind of commercialization on their property.

    Now perhaps you have wondered what it might be like to own a big aperture telescope.
