Recently, when I attended a star party, I had the pleasure of meeting several novices who had just
gotten their first telescopes and were excited about learning how to use them.

They wanted to know how to improve the views through their telescopes.

Here is what I told them, and what I'm going to tell you today.

One of the most important things you will learn about observing through your telescope.

First off, the standard eyepiece(s) that come with most telescopes are generally not the best quality.

Why?

Because in order to give you good quality eyepieces with your telescope, the cost to buy the telescope
would likely have to be higher.

Therefore, to keep the cost down to you the customer, manufacturers generally include low grade eyepieces
and trust that you will do due diligence and get better ones.

And if you don't, well it's not going to be a fun time.

Eyepiece quality is generally determined by the price you pay for it.

Yep, like most things in life, the more you pay, the better the eyepiece is going to be.

Don't be dumb and buy a whole bunch of  cheap eyepieces thinking that quantity is going
to solve the problem.

It's not.

You only need a FEW GOOD EYEPIECES.   Low power, mid range, and high power.

It's really that that simple.
