Hello Friend,

Here are a few quick tips to ensure you get the most of your Fall observing.

1) Have an Observing plan! Try this: Instead of looking at the usaul suspects
  (ie the easy targets) pick up a current Astronomy magazine and pick
 one object that is listed in the "Current Sky" object, that you have never seen.
 Then go out and try to locate that object. Don't rush. Take your time.|
If you don't see it that night, try again another night. You will take delight
in your observing success when you do find it (whether computerized or manual).

Just make sure it is within the magnitude range of your telescope.

2) Put your telescope out at least 1 hour to 90 minutes before your plan to use
    it if is not already at ambient temperature. This allows the scope to cool down
    and be ready to produce the best kind of images when you are ready to observe.
    Also, set the scope up in daylight if you can, it makes it a lot easier to get your
   observing session started.

3)Always use a Star Chart,  Planisphere, or Starmaps so you can orient yourself
   in the night sky. You wouldn't drive to an unknown destination in your car with out a map or GPS
   would you? Same with the Night Sky. it is vast and requires a roadmap of some sort.

4)Prevent dew build up: Dew and condensation on your objective lens or corrector plate, and even
   on your secondary or primary mirrors can put you out of commission real fast.  I always put my
   dew heating system on right away, when I set the telescope up. Set the control to low. 
   If you have a dew cap, use it immediately after you set up your instrument.

5) When observing at the eyepiece, relax your breathing and be as comfortable as possible
     Invest in an observing chair. You will see when you are more relaxed and comfortable.

6)Stray lights a problem? Throw a tablecloth over your head and and scope to elimnate the distractions
    or you can buy a thin cloth material at a Fabric store and use that.
