Annular Solar Eclipse - June 10, 20214 PRODUCTS

On June 10, 2021, an annular solar eclipse begins at sunrise in southern Ontario, Canada. The Moon’s shadow touches down on the northern section of Lake Superior and crosses portions of three countries; Canada, Greenland, and Russia. The full annular eclipse will be difficult to see in Canada due to many obstacles, however the best places to try your luck will be South Ontario above Thunder Bay and the west shore of Lake Nipigon.  Assuming the weather is with you, this "ring of fire" eclipse will be seen rising from the horizon...a wonderful photographic opportunity!

The June 10th solar event is considered an annular eclipse because the moon is too far away (and so a bit too small) to completely cover the Sun.  Instead, a bright ring of fire, or annulus, will surround the moon's entire shadow; a beautiful sight.  Because the Moon's shadow never fully covers the Sun to our line of sight, you MUST wear protective eclipse glasses and/or use a proper solar filter over your telescope's front aperture.  That goes for binoculars, too! 

While you might not want to travel to see the the "ring of fire", there are lots of locations that will be in a deep partial eclipse at sunrise, including Sault Ste Marie, Toronto, Philadelphia, New York City, Atlantic City, Ottawa, Montreal, and Boston.
