Subject: Don't be fooled by the so called experts
Hello Friend,
There are many of so called experts who claim to know a lot about telescopes and eyepieces who give out all kinds of wrong information to other amateur astronomers or would be amateur astronomers about all sorts of things related to this hobby.
The incorrect information could be about: Telescopes, Telescope accessories, Eyepieces, collimation (alignment), computerized instruments vrs manual telescopes, CCD imaging.
You name it.
Why am I not happy about this? Simple. When they come into the store, and start spouting off information, that their "expert"
friend told them, and then we have to re-educate them on the facts, it can sometimes be an uphill battle.
Obviously, they might think: "Well, you are just try to sell me something else" or any of a 1000 reasons.
As an aside, one of the reasons we carry a large inventory is to ensure that we have a varied and wide selection of inventory in stock most of the time
This happened today: A customer came in and wanted to buy a couple of eyepieces for this telescope. It became obvious after a conversation that he was given misinformation on the best type or quality of eyepiece to use for his particular telescope.
"But my friend told me" he said. His friend was someone who was supposedly knowledgeable, because he had been an amateur for a long time, had been in a club, yada yada.
Look, The friend probably had good intentions, but gave thee wrong information, and we then had to re-educate him on what was
actually suitable to do what he wanted to do.
He ended up getting a couple of eyepieces that will serve him well, and result in a positive experience which means another happy customer.
And they are the best kind!
Today, there are many eyepieces in the marketplace, all kinds of grades and qualities.
Some are lousy, some are good, and some are excellent.
If you want excellent then you might want to consider TeleVue.
I can give you one good reason right now as well.
