Subject: An extremely simple technique for recording your astronomical observations..

Hello Friend,

I had the pleasure last night of listening to amateur astronomer, Les Bluestein, of Richmond Hill, Ontario give a very
interesting presentation of how he very simply sketched the images he observed through the eyepiece of his telescope
for Planetary observations.

In this modern day of CCD imaging, and Astrophotography with Digital Cameras, to record what is observed,
going back to the days of Galileo has some other benefits.

One is, that the more you look and study an object, the more you detail you will see over a period of time.
So, you may see festoons, and other fine details, say on Jupiter than you would if you were just observing the
object for a few minutes, which is often what happens when one is at the eyepiece.

All you need is a sketchbook; Some 2b artist pencils, and a stencil, to draw the round circles of the planets;
whether that be Jupiter, Saturn, Mars or the Moon. So, even if you can't draw a straight line or circle,
the detail you sketch in will be accurate.

As for equipment, Les uses an 80mm refractor and a 4 inch refractor. So size is not the issue. Just use the appropriate
magnification that is useful, for the details that you wish to record. For example on the Moon, zoom in on a particular
feature and focus on that.

Give this technique a try; Not only will you find it to be relaxing, but you will learn a lot more about the planets, or deep
space objects, star clusters, whatever interests you!

Now, having said all that, this week we have a slew of exciting new products being released and here are links
to just a few of them. A number of them are New CCD Imagers and Cameras.

Here we go!
