It's hard to believe that Celestron has been around for over 50 years.

Even harder to believe is that one of the founders of the company,  Alan Hale
continues to work as a consultant with the telescope and optical manufacturer.

Way back, Alanand  his then partner and engineer of the company, the late great
Tom Johnson, had a brilliant idea.

They considered that if they could make a commercial version of the Schmidt-Cassegrain optical
design, that amateur astronomers would most likely be interested, if it was at an
attractive price.

And boy were they right!

The Classic Celestron C8 was born in the early 1970's to much acclaim. 

It was embraced by the amateur astronomy community as being an instrument that
was portable, yet had a good sized aperture.

Hale and Johnston eventually sold the Company to other investors so it could
grow and move forward.

Today, Hale is a consultant to Celestron, and in fact is also a real expert on binoculars.

In terms of knowing the best designs, optical lenses, coatings he has really helped
the company develop it's Sports optics division, and as a result Celestron binoculars
today are recognized as being some of the very best in the industry.

Personally,  own several different Celestron binoculars, and the one I am using
most often right now is the 8 x 42 Granite's  which I keep by the kitchen window,
to catch the bird's at the birdfeeder.

The Blue Jays are really aggressive and quite greedy.  The woodpeckers and keepnut hatches,
finches keep a wary distance when those guys are at the feeder.
