Subject: A sensible solution to battling light pollution, that you can help out with
Hello Friend,
Yesterday I told you about how the scourge of light pollution and how it is affecting us all.
It's outrageous that I have to drive 2.5 hours to find a reasonably dark sky from Toronto.
(Actually, I drive about 6.5 hours to the pristine skies of Manitoulin Island).
Today I want to tell you about a fellow that has spent the last several years trying to do something about it.
His name is Robert Dick.
Bob, an amateur astronomer, lives in Ottawa, Canada and he has spent the past several years battling light pollution quietly (and loudly) on several fronts.
I have known of him and his efforts for several years.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Bob at the Starfest Astronomy convention this year.
He told me a funny kind of a story. While the vast majority of amateur astronomers don't like light pollution, apparently it is not
something they are willing to do anything about.
Really?
I find that rather odd, since amateur astronomers are very sensitive and aware of this issue, for the most part.
At least the ones I have talked too.
The bottom line is that Bob designed a new type of shade to deflect the effects of light pollution
in our towns and cities.
It's called the EcoLight.
He has also started a Kickstarter campaign right here to help fund the development of this excellent idea.
Take a look, and see if this is something you can help out with.
Remember, Every little bit helps!
Clear Skies,
Ray Khan
