Ken at your screen again...

I went to write this issue this morning, but a robot stopped me from entering my office!

Let me explain...

At the appointed time for sitting down to write my daily newsletter, I went to my office and opened the door.

Well, I tried, but it wouldn't budge.

That's funny, I thought to myself. This door doesn't have a lock on. What can be stopping me getting entrance?

Then I realized...

Robots!

I have a couple of robot vacuum cleaners - Roombas, they're called. Great products, and they really work. The first one I bought a couple of years ago, and was so good that when it wore out I used it for cleaning my garage floor. A new one does our house now.

And I had started up this new Roomba to clean my office.

Now--it had never happened before--but the Roomba got wedged between a bookcase by the doorway. And so it had closed the door, then got jammed in the space, holding the door shut.

I was locked out by a flipping robot!

Well, I was stumped for a solution. My house has high security, so I couldn't get in the office windows except for breaking them. And I didn't want to do that.

So for the rest of the morning I was shut out while I figured out what to do.

Fortunately I had a brainwave.

I got a long kitchen knife, and slid it, blunt edge, under the door. With some twiddling I managed to hook it under one of the wheels and slowly move the Roomba away from its locking position.

Eureka - I was in at last! It felt like winning lotto.
