Got a call from a marketing expert I've known for years.

"Hey Ken," he said, "I've been looking at your website since you
updated it last week, and I have to tell you something."

I sat up straight. This could be interesting.

He was a car guy too. Maybe he had news about my Aston Martin
Vanquish from the photo I put there.

He continued...

"You're too cheap," he said bluntly. "I've looked around at other
lottery websites, and they're all more expensive than yours. Why
don't you put your prices up to match them?"

Not what I expected.

But I pulled out my calculator and sat back.

"It's really quite simple," I said, and started to explain.

Because most of my products are sold in the United States, I said,
I price them in US dollars.

(Of course, you can buy and use them anywhere, and the order
form always shows what the price is in your country).

In my country, New Zealand, the US dollar buys a lot more when
it's converted back to our dollar by the banks here.

So I'm really getting up to a third more for my products.

But instead of keeping them all at the price everyone else sells
for, I choose to make them cheaper and more available.

That means I get the same profit for my products as the other
lottery sites... but the buyer gets them for much less.

So I get as much profit from a $47 product that I can sell for $39.

That's how I like to work, by keeping the price low and passing
on the value.

And it means that my buyers can spend more on getting a larger
number of tickets for the game - that's where they get the real
advantage.

"Okay," came the response from the other end of the phone, "I see
where you're coming from."

There's just one other thing.

The dollar fluctuates. Sometimes it can be a few cents a day...
sometimes very much more.

And when it changes a lot, I start to lose money.

It's happening now.

And I'm not quite sure how long I'm going to hold prices to the
existing level.

There is only one answer, and that's to buy now before I have to
raise prices.
