But once everything is sold, Hannah is left with no money to her name and at a loss for what to do.
That is, until someone in her hometown of Portland, Maine, suggests she offer herself as a mail order bride.
Hannah tells a few fibs to her potential husband, apple farmer Richard Maisy, and is delighted when he invites her to come out west and be his bride.
But it turns out that Richard wasn’t quite expecting a woman like Hannah to show up on his doorstep.
