Subject: What’s the secret to grabbing some Me Time?

Hi Friend,

Have you ever felt so busy you thought your head was going to spin around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist? If you’re my age, you get the reference and are probably smiling right now. Take a moment to enjoy that, and then let’s talk about why you’re not getting your Me Time. It’s pretty straightforward: There’s too much to do with little or no downtime.

So how do you squeeze in a little Me Time to make your days more manageable? First, let’s start with a loose definition of Me Time by BestLifeOnLine:

The devotion of minutes (ideally, many of them) spent entirely on yourself. Or, at the very least, not spent worrying about everyone else. Setting aside a few designated hours of Me Time a week can help reduce stress, boost happiness, and increase productivity.

Now for the good stuff. Check out these tips for creating more Me Time:

Stop worrying about everyone else.

There are so many reasons to do this, but the main reason is that it doesn’t help them or you. It’s ok to be concerned. That’s normal. But the next time you start worrying see if you can set aside the worry and allow nature to take its course. If there’s something you can do, do it but remember that other people can resolve their own issues. You’ll have more Me Time if you let yourself let go of other people’s business.

Don’t make excuses for taking time for yourself.

No one expects you to slave away and take care of everyone but yourself. Period. And don’t apologize for your Me Time. You’ll only start second-guessing if this is how you should be spending your time. Taking time for yourself isn’t a luxury. It’s necessary to be a functioning, human being. And you may even inspire someone else with too much on their plate to take some time as well.

Schedule yourself in.

Fifteen minutes a day is all you need. Ideally, you’ll want longer, but start with small increments and work your way up. What aren’t you doing that you long for when you allow yourself to dream about having more time for yourself? Whatever it is, do that.

Create a healthy self-care routine.

Self-care habits are an easy way to enjoy Me Time. Benefits include improved overall wellbeing, boosting your confidence, and your self-esteem.

Some routines to consider:

  • Start every day with a glass of hot water with lemon.

  • Move throughout the day to add energy to your body.

  • Stretch (can be done sitting or standing).

  • Breathe deeply (inhale to the count of four through your nose; exhale to the count of four through your mouth).

  • Establish a bedtime routine (shut off electronics, journal, savor a cup of chamomile tea, reduce anxiety by making a to-do list for the next day, diffuse soothing essential oils like lavender or ylang ylang).

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Pick one or two and start enjoying your much deserved Me Time. Once you feel the benefits of taking time for yourself, you’ll wonder what took you so long to do it!
