For those of us who live in the Northeast, winter is finally relinquishing its stronghold and making way for Spring (we hope!). That doesn't mean cold and flu season are over, but that's another email.
Spring is one of my favorite times of year. I love the longer days and warmer temperatures. But I know a lot of people who dread it.
Once the flowers start blooming and releasing pollen, their misery begins. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you know what I mean—itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, and other similar symptoms.
Over the counter allergy medications have a tendency to dry out sinuses and some can even make your head feel foggy. I can't think of one good reason anyone would want to feel like that.
So why not try one of these natural options to see if you can get relief: - Homeopathy — there are specific remedies that boost natural immunity which helps lessen or eliminate allergy symptoms. Allium Cepa helps with symptoms of burning, watery eyes. Euphrasia for profuse burning tears from the eyes and a bland nasal discharge. Pulsatilla for nasal discharge during the day and congestion at night. If you're not exactly sure what you need, feel free to contact me or check out Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicine.
- Neti Pot with Saline — an Ayurvedic tradition used for nasal irrigation, which flushes out your nasal cavity using a saline solution. The benefits include improved sinus symptoms and often decreased sinus medication use.
- Vitamin C — Well-known for its immune-boosting antioxidant benefits, vitamin C lowers histamine levels in the bloodstream, which could prevent the onset of allergies. 2,000 mg of vitamin C can cut histamine levels (which trigger allergy symptoms) by up to 40%, improving breathing and opening your airway. When it comes to supplements, they're not all created equal. Be sure to choose a brand that's know for purity. I like Garden of Life's Vitamin Code.
I hope you enjoy this season of rebirth and renewal!
Be well,
