Change is never easy. Especially when it comes to health. That’s why I like an integrative approach. It allows for change using a step-by-step plan that is sustainable.
Fad diets often fail because of their strict, denial-based methods. Let’s face it. If you’re a chocolate lover and a dietary plan eliminates that from your menu of options, how long do you think you’ll be able to maintain this type of program? My experience has been – not very long.
It’s why most people are unsuccessful when they attempt these types of diets. This is by design. The diet industry makes more money if you use unhealthy methods to lose weight fast, regain it due to the many issues that causes, and then buy another product to lose it again. We’ve all been there. I know I have.
So now that we know what doesn't work, let's focus on what does. Here's my top three tips to start you on your journey to better health:
- Find an accountability partner. According to Chalene Johnson, motivational speaker and author of PUSH, “even if we have just one person to hold us accountable, the likelihood of us completing something goes up dramatically.” Ask a friend, coworker or family member to hold you accountable for your goals. Check in with her at regular intervals (daily, weekly or every other week).
- Pick one or two areas to work on and focus on that until it becomes habit – at least three weeks. That’s it. Taking on more than two new habits can create feelings of overwhelm, and sabotage your progress.
- See #1. Without an accountability partner, it’s unlikely you’ll be successful in the long term. If you need more support than that, I highly recommend my Healthy Habits program that starts on April 14. For more information on this and other offerings, see below.
Feeling healthy, having energy to do the things you love and living a life filled with purpose is too important to ignore. Get well.

| As I mentioned in my greeting, weight loss programs are designed to make sure you fail in the long-term so you keep coming back and buying more programs over and over. Doesn't that stink?
Why wouldn't someone want you to succeed? Even in this day and age, I think most people expect that when a promise is made, it's kept.
Diet companies don't want to tell you that slow and steady wins the race because as a society we've become accustomed to an instant gratification mentality.
So they keep feeding you one yo-yo diet plan after another hoping you won't notice that they never quite deliver what's promised.
It feels awful to be stuck in that cycle. If that happened to you because of my advice, I wouldn’t be doing my job.
So, how do you break the cycle?
You break the cycle by doing something different. By looking at how a doctor would recommend you find your optimal health (because a doctor does) and actually taking that advice. By trusting that science actually works for all of us (because it will). By breaking the cycle of restrict/gain weight/restrict/gain weight - forever.
This is not a program where you can lose a lot of weight fast and then feel bad when you gain it back again later. This isn’t that type of program because this is a program that works — long-term.
If you're looking for a quick fix, then this isn't for you. This program is about figuring out, once and for all, what you need to do to make life long, life style changes. It's backed by a physician, registered dietician and a personal trainer.
And by the way - you can have your cake and eat it too! Enjoying your life is built into the program so you don't have to deny yourself and feel restricted.

| | Community Connections My good friend, Brenda O'Neill Stone, was recently diagnosed with cancer. Brenda is an amazing mom of three children, business woman and also gives a lot of her time and talents to charitable causes like the Rotary Club of Weymouth and Trip of a Lifetime to benefit the students of the Cardinal Cushing Center.
Brenda's illness has affected all who know her. She is an incredibly brave woman who is facing this disease head on determined to "live, love and laugh."
To help defray the costs associated with managing this disease, a site has been set up for donations. It's been said that President Obama received the majority of his campaign donations from everyday people who contributed less than $25. I think we all know how much it costs to run for president, so think of what your donation - not matter how big or small - can do to help out a member of our community.
