Hi Friend,
There’s increasing scientific evidence that kindness is good for our health. Who knew being nice to others is as much a benefit to us as it is to them? Behavioral scientists are finding that acts of kindness and extending courtesy to others have been shown to stimulate the production of: Serotonin – which calms us down and makes us happy Endorphins – the important chemical that makes us feel pleasure Oxytocin – makes us feel calm, promotes social bonding, increases trust and generosity, and helps our bodies fight disease by strengthening our immune system.
How cool is that? Just by being kind to others, we release a storm of healthy hormones that improve our health. Studies show that kindness increases our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing and combats anxiety and high blood pressure. Compassionate people also have 23% less cortisol. You’ve probably read some of my previous emails about cortisol. It’s a stress hormone that can wreak havoc on our immune system. Lowering cortisol is critically important to health because prolonged elevated cortisol levels lead to chronic inflammation which is the leading cause of all disease states. So, let’s practice kindness. It’s one of the simplest ways to improve health and make the world a better place. |
