Hi Friend,
Tell me if this sounds familiar… You work your butt off juggling career, family, relationships, hobbies, and if there’s any time left, you might indulge in dreaming about what you want for yourself. But wait, there’s more. There’s the constant slaving away with dishwashers to load and unload, laundry piles that never go down (how did the women of days gone by wash this stuff by hand?), messages to answer (text, phone, messenger, what’s app…), and exercise to do if you have any energy left.
It’s just not humanly possible to keep up this pace, year after year, and not feel totally wiped out. Yet, you keep pushing forward. And every time you summit the mountain and get everything done with a Herculean effort, there’s something else waiting just over the ridge that needs to be done. By you.
This is life as we know it today. Everyone plants a smile on their face and tells you they’re doing great. Even when they’re not. This my friend is not living. It’s existing.
Now I know there are other people who have it way worse. But this isn’t about comparing your life’s challenges to someone else’s. This is about taking a long, hard look at your own life and saying,
THERE’S GOT TO BE MORE THAN THIS.
Because there is. You just don’t know how to get “this.” If you did, you’d have it.
Dealing with one stressor after another without any respite isn’t sustainable. It makes you tired, cranky and, dare I say it – unreasonable. How could it not? I talk with women every day who feel the same way.
They have …
Fatigue, especially in the morning.
Hair loss including eyelashes and the outer edge of their eyebrows.
Dry skin and their nails are brittle.
Difficulty concentrating and brain fog.
Cold hands and feet and an increased sensitivity to cold.
Added weight, especially around the waist.
Uncontrollable food cravings for salty, sweet or both.
Mood swings that range from crying for no reason to irritability and even rage.
Living in a cycle of stress and overwhelm is like a mound of snow that keeps piling up. Eventually it’s going to come tumbling down, steal your joy and cause you to miss out on experiences that make your life worth living.
If you feel mentally and physically exhausted most of the time, you can stop blaming yourself. Societal expectations can be a strong motivator and insidious teacher of having and doing it all.
