Hi Friend,
Many popular romance genres lack a matching category in the official Amazon bestseller list hierarchy.
Authors and publishers place their books across a whole number of categories, each with a varying degree of fit (or lack thereof.)
Such romance books will often use a "trope designation" or "genre attribute" in the title or book description to give the prospective buyer a clue about what to expect.
For example: "second-chance", "secret-baby", "enemies-to-lovers", "small-town romance", and many more.
Earlier this year, we embarked on a research project to examine the presence and popularity of such genre labels across the romance bestseller lists.
One K-lytics report resulting from that ongoing research was the Billionaire Romance report this summer.
Interestingly, with more than 15 million sold copies by 2020, "Fifty Shades of Grey" not only generated a genre in its own right; it also paved the way for the commercial success of many other "darker" romance novels.
And one such "darker" sub-genre has shown a steep rise in Google search interest between 2019 and 2021: Mafia Romance.
In fact, Mafia Romance recently surpassed Billionaire Romance on Google. You wouldn't want to get involved with mafia men in real life. But if you look for high-selling bad-boy characters and anti-heroes for your romance novels, look no further. Save yourself weeks of research and get our new Mafia Romance study.
Warning: The books featured in this report do not fall into the "Clean & Wholesome Romance" category.
If you want to get the whole story and learn what is trending right now, you will like our first-ever Mafia Romance Report & Seminar.
