Subject: RE: Facebook changes - what authors need to know (2)

Hi Friend,

Just before the holidays, I sent you an update about the four changes that Facebook had made to its news feed algorithm towards the end of last year.

Then, the day before yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg weighed in personally. (Facebook stocks took a dive, and mainstream media started reporting about it.)
Towards the end of his post, Mark mentioned the specific briefing he gave to his product development teams and what it means to pages (such as author pages) you may have. You can read the complete summary of it here.

And then I also owe you some feedback concerning the little Facebook experiment we conducted before Christmas.

If you remember, we switched the common approach around: Instead of using Facebook to send traffic to our site, we used the mailing to send website traffic to Facebook.

We asked you to access my blog via this Facebook post:
https://www.facebook.com/K.lytics/posts/923272794520745

Well, the results were stunning. The organic reach of that post surpassed 8,400. That is is more than double the number of our 3,400 Facebook fans and approx. 20 times the usual organic reach we achieve with our posts.

In the meantime, the organic reach "flattened out," (also showing the importance of "recency" in the Facebook algorithm.) Now I am curious what will happen if you access the post once more and like, comment, or share and then click through it to access my blog. Here it is:

We will certainly not abandon our Facebook strategy but I will certainly put more emphasis on list building and word-of-mouth referrals. That latter makes up 65% of our client base anyway.

Happy publishing!

Best regards,

Alex
