The wait is over! - Here is the much-requested research covering two sci-fi sub-genres: post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction.
Both have grown into significant market segments on Amazion Kindle. The dystopian bestseller list has improved its average sales rank by as much as 20% over the last two years. It seems that Hulu's adaptation of "The Handmaid’s Tale" brought a breath of fresh air to a genre that has been looking for new material following Young Adult-oriented dystopias like "The Hunger Games," "Divergent," and others. On top, Steven Spielberg's version of Ready Player One added cyber dystopias to the current mix.
Post-apocalyptic novels continue to sell very well, too. From EMP survival stories and deadly viruses to the zombie apocalypse that "The Walking Dead" has brought to our living rooms for almost ten years—there are many opportunities to pursue. We compared more than 20 different cataclysmic events (i.e., "apocalypses") to find out which ones offer the highest royalty potential for authors.
