Hi Friend,

I have received numerous requests from nonfiction authors to shed more light on the market for books about self-help, skills, and self-improvement.

Let's face it: People want to be happier. They want to be better and more successful. They seek solutions.

No wonder the book industry for self-help is estimated to be worth $800 million in the U.S. alone and growing at 6% per year, according to Marketdata Enterprises, Inc.

So I had another look at the Self-Help category on Kindle over the last five years; and yes, it has shown a positive development.

It was interesting to see what self-help and personal transformation categories rose and which ones dropped during the recent lockdown period.

We did not stop there but compiled a comprehensive genre report covering 148 categories related to self-help, skills, and self-improvement.

Due to the seemingly low barriers of entry, the market is crowded and competitive on Kindle.

However, once a book makes it into a topical Top 100 list, chances are high it can stick there if it gets at least some traction with readers and regular sales.
