Hi Friend,
Perhaps it is the physical, mental, and emotional strength of a soldier or a soldier's willingness to be the ultimate protector. Whatever it is that draws someone to men and women in uniform, it has greatly facilitated the success of a significant sub-genre on Kindle: Military Romance. We have been following the genre for more than five years. The peak was probably in 2017, and we saw a slightly declining trend since then.
But the genre continues to sell at a very high level in absolute terms. And we observed some interesting shifts that may make this market segment more accessible.
The definition of the genre seems to have widened, offering much more variety for both readers and writers. The wave of success that may have started with bare-chested Navy SEALS on the book covers has spilled over into many other branches and tropes: ex-military protagonists, bodyguards, a returning soldier, romance with just "some" military context, romantic suspense involving special ops personnel, you name it.
Military romance has consistently been in the "green zone" of high-selling Romance genres on our K-lytics Book Strategy Map.
Our new market report examines the genre in detail.
This year, we included a special analysis of various sub-segments in terms of the market positioning of titles and cover art.
As always, our 70+ page report and video covers trends over time, competitive landscape, virtual bestseller list, best categories, cover art analysis, high-royalty characters, top-performing authors, publishers, KU vs. Non-KU, price points, keywords, typical titles and descriptions, and more.
