Sometimes the issue is poor execution of "the basics": a confusing title, an encyclopedic book description, or a book cover from Microsoft Paint.

In other cases, root causes go deeper and can even remain undetected unless a reader is kind enough to leave a hint in a review.
 
For example, what if the book's outside (cover, title, blurb, etc.) does not match its inside, while you think it does?

With "inside," I mean the book's actual content as your readers view it.

Amazon hosts thousands of book reviews that start with "Not what I expected..." and then continue with statements like "This is not urban fantasy!"

Since you have used K-lytics reports before, you will have learned that large parts of a market often settle on a particular cover design cliché to signal the potential buyer what to expect.
 
Admittedly, you cannot please everybody. And if your book is a blend of women's fiction, family saga, mystery, and a dash of romance, the marketing decisions can be tricky.

But how do you make sure it all matches up?

I believe both problem identification and resolution require a well-structured, practical approach.

Such an approach should tackle the critical marketing levers both individually and holistically. (I know, jargon alert! Sorry.)
