Subject: A top romance market in 2025

Hi Friend,

Good News for Rom-Com Fans

Bridget Jones 4: Mad About the Boy, which premiered last week, has achieved the highest-ever opening for a rom-com in the UK and Ireland. The movie grossed $15.5 million (£12.3 million) in its first weekend, even surpassing Marvel’s first release of the year, Captain America: Brave New World.

While I haven’t seen the film yet, I can certainly relate to the genre’s renewed success:

Last summer, my wife and I attended an open-air screening of Notting Hill in the town square of Basel, Switzerland. As the film unfolded under the evening sky, we quickly realized we weren’t alone in our emotions—around us, countless others laughed, teared up, and cherished every iconic moment.

By the time the credits rolled, the entire square shared the same feeling: uplifted, romantic, and wonderfully rejuvenated.

Booming Interest

It seems I’m not the only one feeling nostalgic for the golden age of romantic comedies, from the late 1980s to 2010. And while Hollywood’s investment in the genre may have faded, its fans never left.

Google search interest for "rom-com books" has surged 275% in the past five years. This trend may well be linked to growing dating app fatigue across generations (as reported by Forbes in 2024), with many longing for the kind of serendipitous, real-world romance that classic rom-coms capture so well.

On Amazon, the demand for feel-good stories where love and laughter intertwine is strong—Romantic Comedy is now the #2 highest-selling romance sub-category.

To keep you ahead of these trends and provide insights into this thriving market, I’m excited to present the latest edition of our market research:
