Subject: A historical start into the new week

Hi Friend,

Within Amazon Kindle's No. 1 genre, Romance, we find more than 100 sub-markets. One of the bigger ones is historical romance.

Changes

Fans of the genre will be happy to learn that Amazon just added three new sub-genres to the Historical Romance category, which now boasts 11 dedicated bestseller lists.

The most notable addition is probably "20th Century Historical Romance."

It acknowledges that genre definitions must adapt as times and reader demographics change. Yes, human beings grow older, and readers are no exception ;-).

Thus, a younger reader who discovers a romance novel via #booktok will view a love story set in the 1980s as — let's face it — "historical"!

Regency Rules

Regency Romance continues to be the highest-selling sub-genre.

Although the average monthly sales ranks for the Top-20 saw a slight downward correction, the overall market value grew by 9%. (Solid mid-tier sales thanks to series and their readthroughs.)

Netflix's Bridgerton season 3 has wrapped filming, and as we saw during the releases of seasons 1 and 2, we can again expect a positive effect on Regency romance book bestseller ranks.
