Subject: Fiction vs. Nonfiction - What's the score?

Hi Friend

After 11 months of monitoring more than 170,000 books in the Top 100 bestseller lists on the Amazon Kindle platform, the picture is very clear: Fiction continues to rule, at least at the top.

The Top-100 books' average sales rank in Literature & Fiction has been stable at approximately 100. Nonfiction has been fluctuating around an average of 575 and showed much more volatility.

The corresponding estimated sales volume is ca. 620 vs. 150 copies per day per book. Thus, the Fiction Top-100 outsold Nonfiction by more than four times.

This market share split may not be quintessential for your publishing strategy, but it is good to know. There are many good niches in Nonfiction. However, you should be aware that sales are lower than in Fiction and competition - as measured by the number of available books - is higher.

Have a great weekend. I understand for some of you it is a long one with a holiday.
