As of May 2021 Google start using Core Web Vitals as a ranking signals with increasing significance for both user experience and page load speeds
You can read up on the details of Core Web vitals on Google, but it boils down to this - it's now even more important that your site loads super fast!
Then there's the Google ranking factor, sites that have a poor user experience get penalised by google, resulting in lower rankings and less targeted free traffic, traffic that converts!
Google has even indicated they may even be introducing a "Good Page Experience" Badge in the SERPS for sites that result in a visitor finding what they wanted, which will undoubtedly increase click throughs for these sites.
