Dear Friend
It’s so unlikely that this film ever saw the light of day.
I began filming it, all the way in 2008. And ever since then, I’ve been on a roller coaster ride to find the right resources to make it happen – i.e. from getting equipment, studio use, locations, editor, director, audio engineer…
As I approached Australian film producers, all the way to Screen Australia, all I heard was either ‘No’, polite ‘No’, or, as it most often happens these days, just No Reply.
“You don’t have any following”. “You’re not part of the media”. “It’s too controversial”. “It’s not mainstream enough”. … and on and on.
But through thick and thin, ever since, I chiseled at it. In between work and family commitments, in bouts of good financial fortune, I moved it further towards the finish line.
On a shoestring budget, I took on the role of a presenter, producer, director, editor, researcher, and whatever else was needed. And with the 2021 ‘great lock in’, I got it finished…
And now, here it is.
So before we get to its screening, I just wanted to give you a glimpse into its contents, with an old selection that mostly did not make the final cut.
This segment sums up my background and what’s at the heart of our investigation as we explore just ‘what is happiness’.
