This last weekend I was at Comicpalooza in Houston, TX and I was waiting for the car to take us to the airport when I looked up to see none other than Robert Englund enter the green room.
Now of course I've seen the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but I am not a big horror movie fan--my teenage son is.
It was obvious that Mr. Englund was packed and also ready to go to the airport, but he was being approached by various people and being kind and friendly and very animated despite that. I was torn because I didn't want to be yet another speed bump on the way to the airport, so I approached his handler instead. I asked if he was late and she ruefully said yes he was, so I said then I wouldn't bother him. She asked if I just wanted to talk to him and I told her that honestly, I wanted to get my picture taken with him because there is very little I can do anymore to make my teenage son think I'm cool. I assured her that I didn't want to make him late, so I bowed out.
Wonderful soul that she is, she beckoned me over and told Mr. Englund I wanted a picture, which he happily provided.
I've always heard Robert Englund is a delightful human being, and I'm happy to say he absolutely is--as is the lovely lady who takes care of him at cons. |
