Who needs an escape?

Introducing: Freebie from a Friend

This year I was invited by a group of fantasy authors to participate in a sort of Pay-it-Forward endeavor called "Freebie from a Friend." In each of my newsletters this month, I'll be including a freebie from one of my fellow authors to offer some affordable escapism to those who might need it.

And if you have a teenage son like me, you need it.

Behold this month's freebie:

Wanna see what ADHD looks like when you give it free rein?

Behold my office. I needed a dose of dopamine in a bad way, so I grabbed my Post-it collection, a few sharpies, and all the empty cardboard boxes left over from Christmas and I made a series plotting board (for the new series coming next year), book plotting boards, character plotting boards, and somewhere in there, I think there's a chore board.

I LOVE Post-its. And now my office is colorful and semi-productive and it makes me very happy.

Do you want to own the ebooks you pay for?

Did you know that when you buy an ebook from Amazon, you don't actually own it? It's true. Even though you paid good money for those ebooks, if you close your Amazon account, they're gone. If Amazon closes your account, they're gone. Under other circumstances that Amazon decides, they're gone.

That's one of several reasons I started selling my ebooks direct from my website. The other reasons being I don't have to give any big companies a cut of my income and I can do a sale whenever I want. Free books, bundles, BOGOs, coupons. I can do it all.

If you downloaded any free books from me, then you've already done everything you'd do if you bought other books directly from me, so you've seen how easy it is.

And if you're a visual learner and need a walk-through, here's a video for you:

Take 20% off

As I mentioned earlier I have a fifteen year old son. Most of the time it's wonderful, but sometimes it's sort of like housing a former felon who blames you for his incarceration. Add to that some family illnesses, my body informing me that sneezing while facing the wrong direction now puts me at risk for throwing my back out, and I'm acutely aware that all of us have stressors in our lives that might not be dramatic or world-shattering, but can be a little soul-crushing nonetheless.

And of course some of the stress is dramatic. And world-shattering.

I can't take that stress away, but I can offer a brief escape.

Use the coupon code SAVE20DIRECT and save 20% off any of my ebooks when you buy direct from me. That's not 20% off a single ebook, that's 20% off all the ebooks in your cart.

I'm also hoping to have a cute bonus scene for you next month, but we'll have to see how it goes. My daughter is turning ten this month and she's informed me that she no longer wants me to call her "baby girl," so between crying that my little girl is growing up and trying really hard to break a long-term nickname, I'm a little low on spoons...

Who remembers Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle?

I'm reading my daughter Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, and it feels really good to revisit these books. I had no idea they'd been around since 1947! The fact that the author refers to "the moving pictures" really should have been a hint.

If you're too young to have read the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books, or had them read to you, I highly recommend you pick them up. They're pure gold.

And if you want to have them read to you by a very southern librarian, check out this video from the Huntington Beach Children's Library.

Until next month, I hope you're all staying safe and taking care of yourselves.

Happy reading!
