Subject: What Will You Read in the New Year?

For Readers

Hi Friend,

What Are You Reading?

I've been lucky to start the new year with a little vacation. Right after Christmas, my husband and dogs drove to South Dakota to enjoy a couple of weeks at our Airbnb.

To be honest, it's part vacation and part work since the goal is to fix up anything that's been broken by guests - this time we had a shower knob and the storm door - and we also deep clean, update batteries, etc.

Though during the day, we work hard, we spend the evenings reading in front of the fireplace or watching TV which is heaven.

Before I left my house in California, I went to my "to be read" bookcase full of books and pulled out about a dozen.

The first book I read, I won't mention because I absolutely did not like it, and I don't like to bash other authors, but the second was Susan Elizabeth Phillips' novel Heaven, Texas, a book I purchased in 2009! Sometimes books sit on my shelves for over a decade.

As I expected, this was a fun and satisfying read.

This was a great way to begin the year. Did you read any good books over the holidays?

Finishing My Edits

I've also spent the first two weeks of the year finishing the edits on my upcoming novel which I've titled Let Us Begin! This is the first time I've shared the name of the book, so I'm excited to see the title in print!

Aside from minor additions or maybe adding details here and there, I'm finished editing and revising! I will spend the next few months in production and promotion!

Changes in the Writing and Publishing World in 2023

Here we are in the first couple of weeks of the new year, so what will change?

How will the publishing industry change in 2023?

What writing opportunities will you create?

How will technology make writing more difficult or easier for us?

Most importantly, what will you change in your life to make your writing dreams a reality?

I don't have a crystal ball, but after reading what those in the know have written and interviewing Senior Acquisitions Editor at Crooked Lane Books and Alcove Press, Toni Kirkpatrick, I wrote my thoughts about the changes writers can expect in 2023 on my blogging page on Medium.

Read it here: Medium article to read more about evaluating your year and setting new goals for 2023.
