Subject: Spring Clean Your Bookshelves for New Reads

For Readers

Hi Friend,

Make Room for New Books

It's Spring cleaning time! I try to deep clean every Spring and toss out a few things I never use or that I no longer want, but books are the most difficult items to get rid of. Do you find that to be true, too?

I don't know why it's so hard to get rid of books. Maybe, I think I will reread them (I rarely do) or I loved them so much that I want to keep them forever. Some books were written by friends, so I can't give away their books. Others look cool on my shelf. Crazy right?

This has resulted in every room being crammed with books. I easily have 8000+ books and about 300 on my Kindle.

So, I've decided that once I read a book, I will put it in the donate box and allow someone else to enjoy it. Then, when I go to a bookstore, a conference, or a library sale, I can buy new books and not feel guilty.

As I painfully put a book into the give-away pile now, I tell myself, I'm just making room for a new book. It makes me feel a little better.

Wild Deadwood Reads

In June, I'm headed to Deadwood in South Dakota for Wild Deadwood Reads. Any of you going?

As I prepare, I'm wondering what (aside from my books) I should take with me. Do readers really care about swag? Is it worth spending money on pens, coasters, lip balm, and other promotional give-aways? I have to admit that I have never bought a book because the author had swag at a signing table. But it is fun, so I'm considering it.

Any recommendations?
