Hi Friend,
Let Us Begin Launch Party Success
Parties are always fun, aren't they?
Although book launch parties tend to be expensive, I love them because they give me an opportunity to see old friends and, sometimes, meet new readers. The launch of Let Us Begin was at a cute little dance studio in Pomona, California.
The event was not without disasters -- First, the guy who was supposed to open the dance studio for us arrived a bit late, stressing me out because I needed to prepare for the guests. But, since this is California, and it was a Friday night, traffic was heavy and slowed everyone down, so we quickly got the tables and chairs organized before anyone arrived.
What was worse was that I forgot a charcuterie platter at home that my husband and I stayed up the night before creating. And I forgot a box of pastries as well. Thankfully, I'd packed extra items to refill the platter. And my mom and I stopped at Vons to pick up a bit of deli turkey, just in case. The food display wasn't as pretty as I wanted, but we had enough snacks for everyone. And, we had plenty of wine!
A few years back, I was on my way to a launch party for a different book, and I got a flat tire on the freeway, making me late for my own event. So, I've learned that crazy things happen at the worst possible times, and you just have to laugh and go with the flow. Disasters make for great memories anyhow.
In the end, I was grateful to spend time with wonderful friends while listening to Latin music. Hopefully, everyone enjoyed the book talk, the reading of one of the scenes in the book, and winning prizes.
