Subject: Fall Treats for You

For Readers

Hi Friend,

Fall Treats!

We are entering my favorite time of the year! I love everything about the fall, from the holidays, the delicious food, the weather, to closing up the year with a celebration.

The fall tends to be a hectic time for most of us, of course. The holiday cooking and shopping consumes any free time we might have. But with all the craziness going on in the world, it's a real treat to focus on yummy meals we can cook for those we love, and gifts we can give them.

Today, I'd like to share an Argentine treat that my aunts used to make in the fall and winter. As soon as it turned cold or it rained, my aunt would ask if we wanted Torta Fritas and the kids would all scream YES!

Torta Fritas (Much like the Native American Fried Bread)

  • 4 cups of flour

  • 4 tablespoons shortening or butter

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • 2 teaspoons of salt

  • Vegetable Oil for frying

  1. Add the flour in a large bowl, creating a well (hole) in the center

  2. Place the butter or shortening at room temperature in the center.

  3. With the tips of your fingers, add the flour to the butter

  4. Add the salt to the water

  5. Gradually add the water with the salt and continue to knead until you form a ball.

  6. Knead vigorously until the dough forms blisters on its surface.

  7. Let stand for 1 or 2 hours and then cut small balls, flatten them with the palm of your hand and prick them with a fork.

  8. Fry them immediately in plenty of hot oil

  9. Remove with a slotted spoon when they begin to brown, and place the fried cakes on paper towels to drain.

  10. Sprinkle them with sugar.

They are not difficult to make, but they do take some time. You'll love them!

Reading and Treats

There is nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee or tea with your Torta Fritas, and reading a good book.

And do I have the prefect reading suggestion for you? Of course, I do!
