The cool part about this festival is that it's for readers. There are a few presentations for writers, but mostly, the topics are intended to interest readers of every genre. I attended a presentation by a true crime author about cold cases in South Dakota, then another by a celebrity historian who discusses the Constitution and how not all the founding fathers agreed on what should be included in America's most important document. So, I got to learn new things and meet interesting writers.
Unlike some of the writer's conferences I go to, this one felt like a true festival because there is an exciting energy in the air. The presentations were held in different places along the street; you weren't stuck in a convention center all day. Some workshops were in the library, some in the Holiday Inn, another in Saloon 10. During the day, you could take a break and get a delicious cup of coffee, and ice cream, a cool t-shirt, or lose some money on slots.
It's a fun festival, and I highly recommend it if you are a book lover! Plus, what is better than combining our love of books, with a little travel? |
