Subject: Celebrating Success: Let Us Begin is Thriving!

Let Us Begin is Doing Great!

The bad news is that right after release day, I got sick. I know, what rotten luck, right? Some nasty bug knocked me out for a couple of weeks, so I had to bring my promotional activities to a screeching halt.

But the good news is that Let Us Begin is still doing pretty well in the online stores. Did it make it to the top 100 books under Hispanic American Literature? No, darn it. But for a brand-new book, it's still had a good start.

Where I'll Be

In September, I will be at the South Dakota Festival of books September 22-24.

This festival takes place in historic Deadwood in multiple buildings, so it gives attendees the opportunity to explore the area as well as attend different workshops and events. It's put on by the South Dakota Humanities Council and attracts writers across different genres.

I'm excited to do a little networking and enjoy the weekend being among writers and readers.

Where else will I be? In my other life, I'm a college instructor teaching writing. Since the new semester has started, I will be spending a lot of time with my students. So, for now, the festival will be my only excursion out for the month.

But you can always check my Upcoming Events page on my website to see if I add anything.

For Writers

Wrong Ideas Can Lead to the Right Story

If you've ever felt yourself going off on tangents when you are writing your novel, or that what you're writing is all wrong and not what you intended to write when you envisioned your story, you're not alone. It happens to all of us.

But when your characters feel like they are not cooperating and the story that is developing on your screen looks nothing like what you want it to be, it can be super upsetting and frustrating.

So, what do we do when no matter what, we can't seem to stick to our carefully plotted plan? Well, sometimes the best thing to do is to go with what you really want to write. Maybe the wrong story is really the one you should be writing.

In this video, I share why that might be true.

If you are just starting out as a writer or you've ever said, "I'd love to write a book" then visit my How to Write a Book group on Facebook to read more of my blogs about writing for free, and to chat about your project and ideas with others.

Or if you want to be walked through the writing process, my course The Easy Tell Your Story Course for Beginners is a great place to start.
