It Was An Award-Winning Year!
I know it's been awhile since the last update, so with 2014 coming to an end, I thought I would give you a quick summary of what happened with the film over the past year.
Even though we made a strategic decision not to play a whole bunch of festivals, JACK appeared in several around the country and proved to be a success with both audiences and festival juries. We played in 8 festivals in 2014 and won a total of 8 awards, winning awards in 5 of the 8 festivals we screened in! We won audience awards, directing awards, screenwriting awards, and just plain old Best Feature awards. I attended the Phoenix Film Festival with the film in April and it was an embarrassment of riches at the big awards ceremony. I had to go up to the podium three times on behalf of the film to accept awards for Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture. I completely ran out of things to say by the third trip.
Audiences at these festivals were also responsive. They laughed, they cried, they gasped in that one particular scene, and they continually asked the question, "what are the plans for distribution?" |

Cracking The Distribution Puzzle |
|
For all our success this year, I wish I could tell you that the film was going to be coming out in theaters all over the country, but as of yet, that's not the reality. Many of you are probably familiar with the difficult distribution terrain for small dramas like JACK and know the challenges.
But JACK will get distribution, no doubt. We are currently out to several companies and I intend to announce something in 2015. While a wide theatrical release is probably out of the question, I'm confident the film will be available online on numerous platforms, so you will be able to see the film and tell others about it.
It is likely we will need to enlist your support once we do secure distribution, since there are so many movies vying for people's attention these days. We'll want to be out in force letting friends and family know about the film. I will be able to show you how you can help us when that time comes. |

It was a big year for several of the JACK cast members. As many of you know, Melissa Fumero, who plays Jack's fiancee Lily, stars on the Fox comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine, now in it's second season. Earlier this year, the show won a Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy.
Desmin Borges, who plays Jack's cousin Manny, is one of the stars of the new FX comedy You're The Worst, which was just picked up for a second season.
And Saundra Santiago, Jack's mother Martha, was a regular on Fox's Gang Related. Other actors, like John Herrera, Flor De Liz Perez, and Rosal Colon, were busy on the stage. |

Other Crew Members in the News
You probably know that our composer Lili Haydn is an incredible violin player, having played with folks like Tom Petty, Robert Plant, Sting, Roger Waters, and many others. She recently released her fourth CD, Lililand, which features her playing and singing. JACK director Henry Barrial directed a music video for one of the songs from the album and you can watch it here. It's a great song and the video is terrific fun. In fact, the whole thing was shot on an iPhone 5! |

We look forward to updating you on further developments with JACK in the coming year. Until then, we wish you and yours a happy New Year and an incredible 2015!
Best, Mark |
