| Dear "Jack" Pack,
I wanted to give you a quick update on what's been happening with our film since its release back in November. As I mentioned previously, Jack was released on VOD and in selected theaters in November 2015. I hope many of you had a chance to catch it either on TV, your computer, your mobile device, or on the big screen, where it really shines.
Shortly after the release, we got a bit of amazing news. Our distributor was able to make what is now considered a pretty rare deal for an independent film--they sold it to Netflix. The Netflix acquisition team loved the film and it is now streaming on the service. That means if you haven't seen the film yet and you are a Netflix subscriber, you can dial it up, now, if you want, and watch it. Go ahead...I won't be offended if you read the rest of this email in an hour and a half.
People are now discovering the film on Netflix and rating it, and a few have reviewed it. I want to make a final plea to all of you. Please visit the Netflix page and rate and review the film. This will insure that the Netflix algorithm will connect more people to it. Just click the link below to get to the Netflix page for the film, then click the DETAILS tab, then click SEE ALL REVIEWS, where you will be able to write your own review. Even if you don't have time to review the film, please be sure to rate it highly--that only takes a second.

OTHER VOD PLATFORMS
If you don't have Netflix and still haven't seen the film, you can find it on a variety of other online platforms:
WAIT, WHO'S THAT ON THE SUBWAY?!?
So, if you live in New York City, you may have noticed a familiar face on subways and bus stops around town--our own Jack! Yes, New York City has a program where they help promote Made-in-NYC films. This includes putting posters up all over town. We asked fans on social media to post pics of our posters and they did! We're confident this brought a bunch of new people to the film.
KEEPING UP WITH THE TIMES
Jack was reviewed in both the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, another big feat for an indie film like ours. The New York Times said:
"A gritty, busy tale of the city. Overflows with pungent street flavor. As directed by Henry Barrial, there is solid ensemble acting, particularly by (EJ) Bonilla, who dependably anchors (the) movie."
While the LA Times added:
"Impresses. An uproarious portrait of a less-than-perfect family. Feels gritty and authentic thanks to director Henry Barrial. [A] very capable cast."
We'll take both of those!
A SHOUT-OUT TO JAVIER! |
| | Since shooting the film, several of our cast members have gone on to success in other movies and on TV, (anyone seen Brooklyn Nine Nine?), but you may not know about Javier Munoz, who plays Jack's cousin in the film. He can currently be seen on stage in the biggest show on Broadway, Hamilton! And he's not in the chorus, he plays Alexander Hamilton! Yes, the show's creator plays Hamilton most nights, but Javier plays him on Sundays and his performance was so visceral, the New York Times ran a whole story on him. The opening line of the piece: "Alexander Hamilton is sexy on Sundays."
ONE MORE SHOUT-OUT It's been a long journey for this film, which was written over 20 years ago, then shot nearly four years ago, and now is finding its way into homes all over the country. We want to thank all of you for all of your support. Some of you helped make the film, some of you helped pay for it, some of you helped spread the word, but if you're on this list, you made a contribution that no doubt lead to where we are today. Again--thank you!
Best, Mark |
