Hi Friend ! Do you know what makes you tick? Since everything we DO is fueled by our inner needs, and what we DO impacts all relationships, would it help you to know what specific needs are influencing your life? Maslow and other scholars identified various psychological needs that drive behaviors such as the need for esteem, affection, belongingness, achievement, self-actualization, power and control. There are many benefits to understanding what needs govern our lives; one advantages of knowing which need exerts the strongest influence on our own behaviors is the ability to understand how they affect our interpersonal relationships. For example, many of us have most likely known individuals who have a high need for status. These folks are attracted to high status occupations, and they seek high status positions within their organizations. They desire external things that symbolize their status to others. They may demand respect from others, and require benefits and extras not available to people of lower status. They may at times compete for things that others see as inconsequential --like a bigger office. Needs cause motivation; and when needs aren't satisfied, they can cause frustration, conflict and stress. My mentor, Tony Robbins, has partnered with Cloe' Madanes to create a comprehensive NEEDS assessment that is easy to take, requires little time and imparts priceless information. It will open your eyes to what truly motivates your actions, what beliefs you hold because of your needs and how they may get in your way at times.
