Friend,
Do you ever have moments when you feel like you just can't handle everything that life throws at you?
I know I have!
But here's the truth that I learned from my psychology studies years ago. Our ability to handle life's situations is actually much greater than we allow ourselves to believe; let me explain.
As children, when life comes at us, we lack the maturity and resources to handle many events; we feel completely overwhelmed and even out of control. This is particularly true if your environment was chaotic, traumatic or stressful as mine was. If, as children, we are not taught to see situations as normal, surmountable or otherwise, benign, while given the skills and tools to process them, we will develop a pattern of feeling inordinately overwhelmed under pressure.
This then becomes a HABIT.
The truth is we are no longer that small child who felt helpless, we are strong, competent and highly resourceful adults. We just need to allow ourselves to see it as such. If you are still here on this planet, you have already overcome so much!
The truth is that we will live into whatever we tell ourselves. If you focus on thoughts like "this is too much", "I can't handle this" or any other limiting affirmation, then that is exactly what you will experience (for this reason, I will no longer allow myself to utter the Overwhelmed word because doing so will have experiencing that very thing.
If on the other hand, when life hits you hard, you focus on the truth, that you have already overcome much and are resourceful, you will overcome your situation much more quickly and with less internal stress.
So the next time life hands you crap, pain, upheaval or any unwanted situation (because it will), bring to mind OTHER times in your life when you thought you could NOT overcome, and you DID!!! This will re-frame your perspective from feeling defeated to that of feeling capable and empowered to get through this too, because...
YOU ARE MORE CAPABLE THAN YOU GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT FOR.
Rock on powerful one!
Love and
blessings!
