In today's world, countless tools are available to help design and create better enterprises. Most of those tools, however, are tailored to specific structural or social aspects of Enterprise Design, and therefore are disconnected from each other. To bridge these gaps, we launched EDGY as the open-source platform for enterprise design tools.

Do you have an idea for an Enterprise Design tool? Something you want to share with the world? EDGY allows you to publish your tool and connect it with a growing ecosystem, making it compatible and usable alongside others within a shared framework.

Our vision is to empower co-creators from all disciplines to work together across boundaries by providing a connected, coherent, and freely accessible set of tools. Let’s work together on a common open-source standard for Enterprise Design tools!

The latest addition: The Enterprise Scan

One great example of what's already available on the EDGY platform is the Enterprise Scan, created by Helgi Björgvinsson. This survey tool helps to bring everyone on board, to foster a shared understanding and to achieve a balanced, holistic and sustainable Enterprise Design.

Why publish a tool on the EDGY platform?

The EDGY platform helps you promote your tools and connect them to other EDGY tools on the platform. Using the EDGY language will guarantee your tool is compatible with all the other EDGY-based tools. Together with other EDGY authors, you will be able to co-create the set of coherent Enterprise Design tools needed to design better enterprises.

Examples of tools include:

an Enterprise Scan to explore the design challenge at hand;
methods for identifying design challenges;
methods for strategy formulation;
maps and diagrams that support exploration and co-creation;
workshops or structured interview formats;
spreadsheets that connect EDGY with the OKR methodology;
methods to organise the “ways of working” of realisation teams (e.g. connecting Scrum or SAFe to EDGY).

Producing your EDGY tool – from the first outline to the final editing – follows a sequence of activities, supported by people from the Intersection Group editing team. You can find a step by step instruction and more information on how to publish your own EDGY tool here.

The EDGY Enterprise Scan

Most disciplines focus on a few Enterprise Elements only, using mostly discipline-specific mental model(s) and language. This leads to linguistic confusion and unsolvable arguments about the primacy of one perspective or element over another, which makes it hard for people from different disciplines to collaborate.

The Enterprise Scan facilitates cross-disciplinary discussion and collaboration by using a unifying language that ensures all perspectives and mental models are treated as equally valid. It can be performed individually by an enterprise designer, but for the optimum result, it should be conducted with all co-creators needed to address the design challenge. The Enterprise Scan methodically guides you through all the Enterprise Elements, which helps foster a holistic understanding of the design challenge you and your team are working on. The scan helps focus and orient your explorations and discussions, keeping you on track and ensuring you don't miss relevant design elements. It facilitates a constructive conversation amongst team members, ensuring team alignment around their design challenge, intended outcomes, and steps to be taken to achieve those outcomes.
