Two Reasons That Improved Maintenance Won't Solve Your Spare Parts Problems
Issue #173

Hi Friend,

There is a persistent belief among many in the maintenance community that the best way to resolve spare parts inventory problems is to improve maintenance practices. That is, in the context of spare parts supply and demand, achieving inventory reduction and availability improvement (supply) requires more predictable maintenance (demand). If only the machinations of people and processes were so simple!

In my new article titled, Two Reasons That Improved Maintenance Won’t Solve Your Spare Parts Problems (And What You Can Do About It), I:
  • debunk this myth
  • explain the two reasons why it is not true
  • support this with research
  • provide examples of companies that have made major savings while largely ignoring maintenance systems
  • and then tell you what you can do about it

Also, in case you missed it, here is a link to this month's previous article that helps you determine which spare parts management training course is right for you.
