Online training has been evolving for some years now. And of course, the pandemic years led to a change in attitude to both remote working and remote training.
However, in 2023 we experienced a change that might just be the latest trend in spare parts training.
This is what I call group-individual training.
Let me explain.
In my experience, prior to 2023 most group online training was in the form of webinars and formal, instructor-led, courses. And of course, those formats still exist.
But what changed in 2023 was a shift to companies booking groups of their employees into individual, self-directed, online training.
Hence, the term group-individual training.
How does this work?
Well, for example, we offer courses that are developed for individual study. That is, people join one at a time and then work through the course at their own pace and at times that suit them.
Prior to 2023, these people represented the vast majority of our users.
In 2023, this all changed.
Last year, more companies started booking groups of people to undertake individual courses. They would register groups from as small as four people to more than 20.
Rather than sign up individually online, they would request a single invoice covering the whole group.
This is a significant shift in corporate behavior.
In 2023, this cohort represented nearly 70% of our users and our online training grew by 260%
The major benefit for the companies that do this is that their team members who will apply the training all learn the same tools and techniques and adopt the same language, at more or less the same time. This makes improvements more likely to ‘stick’.
What are your training plans this year?
Are you still doing individual training or are you planning on group-individual training?
