Issue #206
Hi Friend,
Happy New Year!
When I was a young maintenance engineer I learned that one of the traps for people managing spare parts is the application of 'retail model' inventory management thinking for their spare parts inventory. The dilemma this causes is that the retail model is so widely taught that breaking free of that constraint appears to be a radical move. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Fast forward 30 years to today and I can say with absolute confidence that the key to achieving better spare parts inventory outcomes in 2018 (increased availability with lower investment) is to understand why the 'retail model' doesn't work for spare parts and what to do instead.
This month's article, titled 8 Reasons Why Spare Parts Management is Different, provides some insight into the thinking required to manage spare parts inventory the right way..
Discussion Group Session
Following this theme, our first discussion group session for 2018 will be on Why Spare Parts Inventory Management is Different.
The session will be on Tuesday 9th January or Wednesday 10th January - depending on your time zone. Follow this link for more information and to register:
Discussion Group Sessions follow a ‘Mastermind’ process where the session is introduced by me and then participants are invited to share examples of their experience. This is an opportunity to tap into the broad experience of other SparePartsKnowHow members. Please note that these sessions are 'Members Only'.
As the years roll on the challenges of spare parts inventory management don't get any easier. We have plenty of innovations planned this year that help you achieve better results. |
